Clinton, Conn. (WTNH) – Emergency responders in Clinton have found two men who came ashore in a raft early this morning along Grove Beach.
According to police, two men left Greenport, NY around 5 p.m. yesterday in a seven foot raft. They last had contact with their roommate around 7 p.m., saying they had no idea where they were since they were not familiar with the area. The Clinton Volunteer Fire Dept. says at one point the men tried getting the attention of the Coast Guard using a cell phone, but that did not work because the phone got wet and stopped working.
Officials tell News 8 that around 4 a.m. today the raft made ground along the beach in Clinton. Both men went to a home along Shore Road and knocked on the door for help. The homeowner called 911 and that’s when one of the men, identified as William Brandon McCreery, left the house and disappeared. The other man, 33-year-old Angel Hernandez of Poughkepsie NY, was taken to the hospital to be checked for hypothermia.
A search began for McCreery, who was located just after 11am Thursday morning. It’s unclear where McCreery and Hernandez were headed when they ventured out onto Long Island Sound in a raft.
