Virginia man accused of arson in Haddam

HADDAM, Conn. (WTNH) — A Virginia man is facing charges for intentionally starting a fire on Candlewood Hill Road in Haddam. This happened during the day on Thursday.

First responders arrived on the scene after getting a call about a suspicious fire. They found the house at 575 Candlewood Hill Road engulfed and quickly determined the fire was arson.

While police and fire were investigating, Ronald Carlson, 50, of Portsmouth, Virginia arrived. He told police, he set the fire and it was his brother’s house.

Carlson was arrested and then brought to the hospital to be treated for burns. Carlson is charged with arson and burglary. He’s being held on $500,000 bond and will appear in court once he’s released from the hospital.
