HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) – A man has been arrested and charged with stealing unemployment benefits from his girlfriend’s mother, who was in jail.

Police say Efrain Rodriguez, 28, fraudulently collected approximately $1,604 in unemployment benefits in May and June of 2013. The benefits were issued to his then-girlfriend’s mother, who was incarcerated at the time and not eligible for benefits, the warrant states.

Rodriguez was arraigned today and a $2,500 bond was set by the court. His next court appearance is scheduled for December 2, 2014, in Superior Court, G.A. No. 15, New Britain. .
