HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH/AP) — The body of a 45-year-old woman was found inside a Hartford apartment Tuesday, and now police say she was murdered.
Hartford police say they were sent to the apartment on Hanmer Street to conduct a well-being check, and found the body of the Luz Nieves inside.
Homicide Detectives determined Nieves’ ex-boyfriend, Alex Baez-Franqui, was responsible for her death. Police say Baez-Franqui was smoking crack before stabbing Nieves.
Hartford police arrested Baez-Franqui Wednesday and charged him with murder. Investigators say he admitted to the crime. He appeared court today where his bond was increased to $2 million.
The cause of Nieves’ death has not been released. Her body was sent to the medical examiner’s office in Farmington for an autopsy, which was conducted on Wednesday.
