HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — President Barack Obama is urging Hartford residents who couldn’t vote Election Day morning because of problems at the polls to go back if they can and cast their ballots.
Obama called into “The Colin McEnroe Show” on WNPR-FM on Tuesday afternoon to support Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, whose campaign is asking a state judge to extend voting hours in Hartford by an hour because of the problems.
Malloy’s campaign filed a complaint in state court saying witnesses reported that 12 polling stations in the capital city failed to open on time at 6 a.m. as required because voter registration lists weren’t ready, prompting many people to leave without voting and causing delays of up to 90 minutes.
Malloy is locked in a tight race with Republican Tom Foley.
