Meriden family on the hunt for stolen puppy

MERIDEN, Conn. (WTNH)– A Meriden family is looking for their dog after they say someone broke into their home and took off with it.

Carla Daniels says they noticed the dog was gone at about 4:30 a.m. at their home on Hickory street. She says the person crept into the bedroom of her 14-year-old daughters room, which had been left unlocked, nabbed a laptop, a play station 3, and the dog.

“My daughter Ashley had called me and she was basically screaming mom someone stole my dog! Help me get my dog!” said Daniels.

Daniels adds, the Pit bull-mix puppy came to their family in a sad state.

“She was infested with mites. She had urinary tract infection. She had worms,” said Daniels.

However, the dog’s disappearance has left them in a state of confusion, wondering why would someone steal their precious pet? And, why they were targeted?

Although Carla and her family are glad that no one was hurt during the break-in, it’s taken an emotional toll on the family.

Meriden police say they are investigating, but have no additional information at this time. There is a $500 reward for the dog.
