BRANFORD, Conn. (WTNH)–A six year old boy is being called a hero for helping to rescue an elderly man from a fire in Branford. That family lost their home to the fire. But, the 92 year old who was inside was saved thanks to a quick thinking brave boy, Titus Panasy.
Panasy tells News 8 he was getting ready for bed on Halloween night when he looked out his bedroom window to see fire. He says, “I just heard the boom.” And you screamed for dad? He nodded, “yes,” and went on to say, “The fire started in the garage first and it spread up high and it spread and spread.”
It was his call for help, that the homeowners Alice and Jim Ruggiero feel saved the day. News 8 caught up with the Ruggiero’s at a huge fundraiser Monday night the Branford Elks. Alice Ruggiero’s coworkers at Century 21 organized the event the drew hundreds. Alice says, “I’m really feeling the love.” Jim says, “It’s just awesome.”
Titus doesn’t yet realize what he did was awesome. He didn’t even tell his friends at school. “I’m too shy,” he said. Jim’s 92 year old dad was the only one in the home on Heritage Hill Road when the fire started. Tutus’s dad ran over to get him out. Alice says, “I believe he saved my father-in-law because he got there in time and there’s something to be said about that.”
The Ruggiero’s can’t wait to go over and thank Titus once things calm down. They’re not sure if they’re going to try and rebuild on Heritage Hill Road or move.
