Simsbury, Conn. (WTNH) — Saint Francis Hospital teamed up with Stop & Shop and opened a fast care clinic where people can grab groceries and shop at the same time. At the Stop and Shop in Simsbury health care is quick and easy access. Elaine McKemmie an advanced practice registered nurse with Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center said, “If they are coming in for routine illnesses such as sore throat, ear infections, sink cities anything like that they can come here and get a quick examine and diagnosis and they are able to receive medicine from a pharmacy of choice.”
Patients are given beeper so they can shop while waiting. The clinic has two exam rooms with all the bells and whistles. The hospital hopes to treat people with routine medical problems in the clinic. McKemmie said, “As we all know health care is so expensive and particularly visits to the emergency room or emergency department are exorbitant and people sometimes don’t have another choice.”
McKemmie said health care providers keep in touch with the primary care doctor, “we are very in touch and in communication with the doctors, so their primary care provider is always in the loop. I think that’s an advantage for the doctor he can get his patient to be seen a little bit earlier.” The clinic accepts most insurance and Medicaid. If you don’t carry insurance it’s a $79 fee for a visit.
