Mashantucket, Conn. (WTNH) — Officials at Foxwoods Resort Casino have informed the dealer’s union that they will be eliminating more than 80 positions.
The Day of New London reports that a memo was distributed to members of Local 2121 of the United Auto Workers saying that Foxwoods management will cut 62 table-games dealers as well as 22 poker dealers. These latest layoffs are the third round of job cuts to hit the union this year. Foxwoods did not provide a timetable for the coming layoffs.
Around 70 dealer positions were cut during the spring, just a few months after 125 dealers were let go last winter. According to the memo sent to union members, these latest layoffs are related to further changes taking place in the Rainmaker casino area. Starting in June of this year, slot machines and some table games in the Rainmaker casino have been closed on weekdays.
Many of the layoffs will involve dealers who sometimes serve in supervisory roles, both full-time and part-time. Foxwoods management said they will offer severance packages to volunteers before issuing involuntary layoffs.
