Man dies in boating accident

Winchester, Conn. (WTNH)– A 21 year old Torrington man is dead after a boating accident Sunday.

According to DEEP, emergency responders arrived to Highland lake around 5:25 Sunday evening for the report of an overturned boat.The responders were told on scene that three people were on boat a 12 foot aluminum boat at the time of the incident.

Two of the boaters, 27 year old Kyle Hadsell and 25 year old Howard Surowiecki, both of Winsted, were able to swim ashore one their own. They were sent to Winsted Health Center for treatment of hypothermia, and were later released.

21 year old Benjerman Steen was found shortly after noon on Monday, and was pronounced dead on the scene. He was found by the State Police Dive Unit several yards from the overturned boat. DEEP EnCon police are continuing to investigate the accident.
