New Haven honors veterans

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)– A student from the Sound school and Neighborhood Music School did a trumpet salute today at New Haven’s Welcome Home with Gratitude ceremony.

The event on this Veterans Day was held to honor those who have served and those who are just coming home from their time serving our country.
Tuesday, “bells of hope” rang throughout New Haven on this November 11th at 11:11, for 11 minutes. There were remarks about how Memorial Day and Veterans Day are two distinct days to honor those who’ve dedicated their lives to our country.

“Veterans Day is a little bit different,” said veteran Michael G. Romeo. “It’s a thank you to everyone who signed on dotted line, who did not hide or run away, who took an oath that they would follow the orders of those placed over them and protect the constitution and values of our United States of America.”

The New Haven County Firefighters Emerald Society performed, as well as a Welcome Home Gospel Choir to round out the day in tribute.
