California (WTNH)– A story that a lot of people are talking about today is that murder mastermind Charles Manson is tying the knot to a 26-year-old woman.
80-year-old Manson and his 26-year-old fiancee now have a marriage license, but he will never be able to carry his bride across the threshold because of his life sentence in prison.
In the 1960s, Manson and his followers known as “The Family” were convinced that they were on the brink of an apocalyptic race war. Manson is now serving a life sentence for planning the murders of several people including the pregnant actress and wife of director Roman Polanski, Sharon Tate, before killing married grocers Leno and Rosemary LaBianca the next day. He was convicted in 1971.
Manson’s fiancee Afton Elaine Burton, who goes by the name of “Star,” moved from her Midwestern home at age 19 to be closer to Manson. He is serving his sentence at California State Prison, Corcoran. Star has spent the past seven years trying to exonerate him. She has several websites devoted to his innocence.
“I love him and I’ve somehow, I’ve got half a brain that I can see that he is the one that knows what’s going on. He’s the one that is in the truth whenever nobody else is,” Star told CNN about Manson.
The couple was issued their marriage license on November 7th and will have 90 days to use the license before having to re-apply. They are allowed 10 other guests who are not inmates but the couple is not allowed conjugal visits.
A date has not been set yet for the wedding but Star tells the Associated Press that it will likely happen in December. The wedding will take place in prison. Manson is not eligible for parole until he is in his mid-nineties in 2027.
