West Haven teen wins Sikorsky innovator award

Sixteen-year-old Hana Bidon of West Haven is the 2014 winner of the Sikorsky Youth Innovator Award (WTNH)

STRATFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A West Haven teenager won a very prestigious award Tuesday morning.

16-year-old Hana Bidon is the winner of the 2014 Igor Sikorsky Youth Innovator Award. With that award, Bidon received a $1,000 scholarship check for her college studies.

The contest was to imagine a environmental helicopter of the future.

“It’s a rescue helicopter, so one of its main purposes is to rescue endangered species, and there’s this smart system that’s integrated into the helicopter that notifies the pilot of any engangered species,” Bidon said.

Bidon’s idea for an environmentally-inspired helicopter design closely resembles a bird’s bone structure.
