Give the cops the bird in Old Saybrook

OLD SAYBROOK, Conn. (WTNH)– With Thanksgiving just a few days away, the Old Saybrook police department is doing their part to make sure folks in our community have a happy Thanksgiving.

The department held a food drive with a catchy slogan, “Give the cops a bird.” Law enforcement collected canned goods and turkeys at the Stop and Shop in Old Saybrook for local families in need.

“The food goes to feed about 200 families for their Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday meals. And anything else that we collect in addition to that will go to the Connecticut Food Bank that supplies all the states food pantries,” said Michael Spera, Old Saybrook Police Chief.

Last year the Old Saybrook police department collected 800 turkeys and $4,000 in cash donations.
