Hartford man arrested for carrying gun illegally

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Hartford Police arrested a man that they pulled over for carrying a gun without a license, on Saturday night.

Police were performing a routine motor vehicle stop at 9:20 pm, when they noticed the suspect attempting to hide something underneath his seat.

Authorities asked the driver to step out of the vehicle, for the safety of the police officers.

Officers spotted the firearm protruding from beneath the seat as the driver was exiting the car.

The suspect did not have a Connecticut pistol permit and was immediately arrested and charged, according to police.

Xavier Cruz-Echevarria, 22, of Hartford, is facing a list of charges including Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle, Weapons in a Motor Vehicle, and Possession of a Pistol without a Permit.

He is being held on $350,000 bond.
