WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)– Six people may have to find another place to spend the night after a late afternoon fire ripped through part of their home Sunday.
It all happened on Main Street in West Haven. Firefighters say no one was home at the time of the blaze but a dog did have to be taken out of the house. They add damage to the fire was mostly contained to the third floor which those who saw what had happened say was still enough to stop them in their tracks.
“I was just waling down the street and this black billowing smoke coming out of the fire place there,” said Darren Sutphin, West Haven.
“Made and aggressive attack to the third floor, knocked the fire down, kept it to minimal damage,” said Scott Schwartz, Deputy Chief.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Those impacted by the fire are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
