Retail experts in fact predict some 126 million shoppers will partake in the day. Believe it or not that’s actually down from 131 million last year. Nevertheless however still a very popular day to spend some cash online and because of that it’s important people be mindful of how to keep their money safe from hackers.
We got your back with advice from cyber crime experts on what you should do and not do when making purchases this Cyber Monday.
First, don’t shop online when you’re in public, especially if you’re using public WI-fi because it means others may have the means to see what you’re doing
Second, stick to well known retailers. Make sure the websites you are using a verified, often you can see a symbol for this that says something like “verified” or “verified by visa.”
And last, always check your statement. If you think you see spending you didn’t make call your bank or credit card provider so the issue can be dealt with immediately
There is no question shopping on Cyber Monday can be convenient and offer major savings but if you’re not careful it could cost you.
