Man is struck in New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) – A man was hit by a car on Ferry Street near Pierpont Street in New Haven Friday night.

At 9:49 p.m. police were called to Ferry Street near Pierpont Street where a man was found unresponsive. The driver who hit him remained at the scene and waited for police.

The man is said to be in his thirties, was rushed to Yale – New Haven Hospital for treatment. He is not being identified, and police say he is in critical condition.

A witness told officers the driver had been traveling west on Ferry Street the man was staggering in the road. She said she told the man to be careful as he was difficult to see. She said he disregarded her warning and proceeded across the road where he was struck by another car traveling east. The pedestrian, who was struck during heavy rain, was wearing dark clothing and had dark colored hair.

The driver has not been charged.

The investigation is still under investigation.
