Police car into river after chase


SEYMOUR, Conn. (WTNH)– A Seymour police car went into Bladens River after a chase Saturday afternoon.

Police say they were investigating an accident at Route 67 and Day Street when officers learned one person involved had a family violence arrest warrant for assault. The wanted suspect fled on foot and was chased by police on foot and in vehicles.

According to police, an officer in a vehicle came to a dead-end and reversed his cruiser to continue the chase, but slid down an embankment and into the river. The police cruiser was submerged in six feet of water and is considered a total loss, police say. The officer driving the cruiser was not injured.

The suspect police were chasing got away, but they know his identity.
