Two alleged car thieves caught red-handed, one gets away

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH)– Hartford police arrested a man Friday night after an alleged attempted car theft.

Police say they received a tip from a concerned citizen, and when they arrived in the area of 10 Campfield Street, officers observed two suspects trying to steal a car.

Hartford resident Juan Perez, 18, was arrested after a foot chase. He is charged with third-degree larceny, interfering with police, and other crimes. The other suspect got away. Police describe that suspect as a 16- to 20-year-old Hispanic male with a medium complexion, weighing about 150 pounds.

Police say Perez and the suspect got to the scene in a vehicle they had already stolen on Wethersfield Avenue. Investigators think Perez and the other suspect are the cause of a recent surge of car thefts in the city.
