CDC study finds new dangers of tanning beds

(WTNH)–The tanning bed craze does not seem to have died down, despite warnings from doctors that UV radiation causes far more harm than good. But on Monday, new research suggests that there is even more to worry about than skin cancer if you plan to hit the tanning salon.

Tanning beds sent thousands of patients to the emergency room for minor injuries last year, says a new study from the CDC. Fainting spells and eye injuries, even injuries to the muscles and bones are among the reported complaints.

In most of these cases, patients suffered skin burns bad enough to send them to the hospital–all a result of a few minutes in the tanning bed.

Doctors say, if you think that time in the tanning bed will not do you any harm, at least not for years, you may want to re-think that. Not only could you end up on the path to skin cancer, but you could also end up in the ER.
