HAMDEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Hamden police have made two arrests in connection with a double shooting on Dixwell Avenue earlier this month.
On December 4th, officers responded to the area of Dixwell Avenue and Dudley Street on a report of a shooting. When police arrived on the scene, they found two young men had been shot.
The first victim, 20-year-old Corey Bell of New Haven, suffered a gunshot would to the chin. He was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital with serious injuries.
The second victim, 18-year-old Jaywon Lacy was shot, but police said he was not injured. According to police, the bullet pierced Lacy’s clothing, and struck a steel knife that Lacy had in his pocket.

Police conducted their investigation, and two suspects were identified. Officers applied for warrants, and began to look for both suspects.
On December 8th, police located their first suspect. Officers arrested 18-year-old Tasheem Scott of Hamden. Police said Scott turned himself in. He was charged with assault, criminal attempt to commit assault, and carry a pistol without a permit. Scott is being held on $250,000 bond, and is due to appear in court in Meriden on December 22nd.
On December 12th, officers arrested their second suspect, 18-year-old Shamont Newton of Hamden. Newton was charged with conspiracy to commit assault and carry a pistol without a permit. Newton is being held on $200,000 bond, and is scheduled to appear in court in Meriden on December 29th.
