25 more films added to National Film Registry

(WTNH)– Twenty-five more films were selected to be added to the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress this year.

The librarian of congress chooses the the films that are at least 10 years old under the National Film Preservation Act. The library’s Packard Campus of the National Audi-Visual Conservation Center in Virginia then preserves each film, sometimes collaborating with movie studios and filmmakers.

There are now 650 films on the list after the newest 25 films were added to the list this year. Some fan favorites include “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” “Saving Private Ryan, ” The Big Lebowski” and “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.”

Here are this year’s additions to the film registry:
