Arrest made in 2012 homicide

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH) — A 53-year-old man is returning to Connecticut to face murder charges.

Mario Chavez was a fugitive from justice, wanted for stabbing Francisco Barbosa-Vega, 23, to death in Bridgeport in May 2012. Police say Barbosa-Vega was breaking up a fight at the time. Witnesses told police, the men who were fighting got out of a car before the brawl started. When Barbosa-Vega came to help, police say, Chavez also got out of the car and stabbed Barbosa-Vega.

In 2012 police issued a warrant for Chavez’ arrest. He was caught in Miami, Florida on December 5.
