Thompsonville fire chief suspended

ENFIELD, Conn. (WTNH)– Thompsonville Fire Chief Frank Alaimo has been suspended from the department without pay for four weeks.

Thompsonville Fire Commission Chairperson Colleen Reidy says the commission voted Tuesday night to suspend Alaimo. Reidy says Alaimo was instructed to respond to last Wednesday’s fatal fire that claimed four lives, but showed up two hours late.

The chairperson says the commission has new members who want to get an understanding of the department, so they asked Alaimo for a description of his duties and the hours he worked, but he neglected to do so.

The commission says Alaimo was also belligerent towards the board and would not submit mileage for his department truck. News 8 was there when Chief Alaimo turned in that truck Wednesday afternoon.

Reidy says Alaimo’s actions don’t represent the department as a whole.

“The department does their job,” said Reidy. “They show up, they fight the fire, with or with out the chief.”

Alaimo’s suspension starts Thursday.
