Power restored in West Haven after transformer problems

WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Two West Haven schools were without power along with hundreds of homes Wednesday after a transformer went offline.

West Haven High School was dismissed early due to the outage. Complicating the situation for administrators was a lack of phone service in addition to a electricity at the school. Concerned parents had to call the Board of Education central office for information.

Mackrille Elementary School was also in the dark, but remained open for the remainder of the school day. Administrators said that they made that decision since the young students generally stay in their classrooms anyway.

United Illuminating crews were able to restore power by 4:00 p.m.
