19 year Veteran Old Saybrook Firefighter Dies

OLD SAYBROOK, Conn. (WTNH) — Flags were at half-staff for veteran firefighter Lt. Guy Wells who died at the age of 50 on Wednesday.

Wells joined Old Saybrook Fire Department in 1988 where he served the fire house on Main Street for 19 years carrying badge #356.

He died from complications with diabetes. Wells lost both legs to the illness which pushed him into veteran status in 2007.

Chief J.T. Dunn, said “He was a sportsman, an avid fisherman and hunter, a really outdoors type of guy and hardworking,”

The family will plan a memorial service after the New Year.
