NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)– Two convicted felons were arrested on drug and gun charges in New Haven Monday.
Police say they saw a SUV blocking a driveway on Atwater Street and approached the vehicle. They say both occupants of the vehicle got out; the passenger walked towards the officers while the driver quickly moved towards the driveway. One officer followed the driver, Vincent Verderame, and saw him discard something, according to police. Police say Verderame told them he tossed a bag of marijuana. Officers say they recovered a bag of marijuana and four ounces of cocaine.
According to police, after placing Verderame under arrest, officers searched the passenger, Orlando Estrada, and found a gun-rail mountable laser sight in his pocket. They say Estrada confessed to having a gun in the SUV. Officers say they recovered a .9 mm handgun.
Verderame is charged with possession of narcotics, possession of marijuana, having a weapon in a motor vehicle, and other crimes.
Estrada is charged with criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit, and having a weapon in a motor vehicle.
