I'm Dreaming of a Warm & Rainy Christmas…..WHAT?

Well winter is finally here! It officially started Sunday at 6:03 PM, so what does this mean for us? Well for one, our sunsets will start to get later and later each day! Also the amount of daylight each day will also get longer! (December 21st is the shortest day of the year, (9 hours, 11 minutes and 30 seconds) It also means it’s officially time for snow…or does it? This year sure has been lacking in the snow department, especially if you’re a snow lover! So far this year, the shoreline has seen .7 inches of snow accumulate on the ground, which is 2.9 inches below normal.  Last year at this time,10.9 inches had fallen. Inland CT has seen 5.8 inches of snow this year, which is only .5 inches below normal.  Last year at this time inland already saw 12.4 inches of snow!

So where is all the snow? So far this year, all the storms were what we like to call “inside runners”.  The storm track is just too far inland to bring significant snow, also the weather pattern has been quiet! Of late though, the pattern is starting to become more active! Now we just need some cold air!

But what about the Christmas eve and Christmas forecast…Lets just say it’s very “unchristmas” like. Christmas eve is an all day rain event, heavy at times. Windy too, wind gusts could reach 50 mph! Scattered power outages are certainly possible. If you want to look at the glass half full, it will be close to 60 degrees! I might be slightly optimistic for Christmas, but the rain should be out of here by noon and even a few breaks of sun by sunset, which by the way is 4:28 PM. When the rain is all said and done, 1-3 inches are expected.

A flood watch has been issued for Litchfield, Hartford, Tolland, Windham Counties from Wednesday evening through Friday Morning.  1-3 inches of rain.
