Man robbed at gunpoint at Middletown church

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WTNH)– A Middletown man was arrested for robbing another man at gunpoint at a church on Friday.

Police say they responded to The Holy Trinity Church at 381 Main Street just before 7 p.m. for an armed robbery. There the victim told police that he was held at gunpoint and forced to give his wallet, which contained $21, and his cell phone to the suspect.

The suspect, later identified as 32-year-old Tyson Mayfield, then ran toward Court Street and Main Street where he was located by officers. Mayfield ran from the officers before being taken to the ground on Court Street, where he continued to resist arrest.

Police say Mayfield was found to be in possession of $21 and when a show up was conducted, the victim said he was 95% sure that Mayfield committed the crime.

Mayfield was charged with larceny, robbery/ firearm-threat and interfering with an officer/ simple assault. He was held on bond.
