Parents donate toys to children’s hospital in son’s memory

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A family kept the memory of their son alive by giving back Monday.

Melissa and Alphonse Jacques dropped off toy donations at Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital Monday morning. It’s the second year they’ve organized a toy drive, which is in memory of their son Matthew.

Matthew Jacques died in 2013 at age six after complications from a heart transplant. Now, the toys raised by his parents go to other youngsters facing hospital time over the holidays.

As Mathew’s father Alphonse Jacques described it, they’re a family who pays it forward any way they can.
