Tips for traveling with the elderly

(WTNH)– Dealing with travel over the holidays is stressful enough, but add an elderly travel companion to the mix and it can become more difficult.

Traveling long distances can be hard on seniors,  Tracy Weiss from “Right at Home” was on GMCT to talk about the best ways to keep your elderly loved ones safe and comfortable.

Here’s her advice if someone’s flying with a senior citizen:

    • Call the airport ahead of time to get their protocol for handicap passengers.
    • Find out how you get a wheelchair or golf cart for transportation within the airport ahead of time.

What about if you are not flying with the senior, but you want to accompany them to the gate?

  • Show up early and get a pass that will allow you as a non-traveler to go beyond security.
  • Have the drop off and park scenario worked out.
