About 200 officials to receive $1.4 million raises

Dannel Malloy

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — About 200 officials in Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s administration are getting an early holiday present: a pay raise ranging from 3 percent to 12 percent.

The increases for the appointed officials, including agency heads and governor’s staff, will cost the state approximately $1.4 million annually. Funding for the raises was included in the state budget that took effect July 1.

Office of Policy and Management Secretary Ben Barnes said Tuesday that most appointed state officials have not seen a salary change for the last four years. He said these pay increases are needed to retain and attract “top-notch talent,” keeping Connecticut competitive with other states and the private sector.

Both unionized state employees and managers received 3 percent raises last summer. Managers can receive earned merit increases in January.
