Bomb threat at Southington High School

Southington, Conn. (WTNH) –  Students at Southington High School will return today after a bomb scare.

The school was evacuated when someone posted there are explosives inside on the social media website YIK YAK on Monday.

The social media app is anonymous and does not require or display any user names or identifying information for the people who post messages.

The bomb threat was discovered near the schools’ dismissal time. Students were let out early and all after-school activities was cancelled.

The Southington Police Department went through the school with members of the school administration. they wanted to make sure there wasn’t a real threat. The Southington Fire Department and Hartford Bomb Squad were also called to the scene.

Police officers brought the Hartford Bomb Squad to the Agricultural Science building where they inspected a suspicious bag.

There weren’t any explosives found. The bag only contained various clothing items.
