Busiest sales day for grocery stores

NORTH HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)– By now, most people have already sent their gifts or have them wrapped and under the tree. Now the focus is on getting ready for those big holiday meals with family and friends gathered at the table.

The Big Y in North Haven was packed with customers Tuesday, the day many in the industry estimate to be the busiest sales day for grocery stores nationwide. The day before Christmas Eve has a lot of people filling up their shopping cart for all sorts of reasons.

“This is when they buy most of their perishable products, their breads, their meats, and produce especially,” said Big Y Store Director Sal Fazzino. “Between breads and cakes and anything they want to put on their table, they want to make sure it’s the freshest.”

“The kids arrive tonight and then we have a full agenda tomorrow, so today had to be the day,” said customer Joe Thompson.
