(WTNH)– AAA reports that nearly four million travelers are hitting the road in New England this week. That’s a four-percent increase from last year. They say that’s because of the cheap gas prices, the lowest they’ve been since 2009.
Many heading North Tuesday said going through New York was the worst, taking two hours just to get from the city to Stamford.
“It’s not too bad, like certain parts are more congested than others, but I figured today is better than coming back tomorrow,” said one traveler.
“There’s so much going on on the roads coming through Connecticut that it’s almost not worth it,” said another driver.
State police are also cracking down on drunk drivers with operation SANTA, which stands for Stop Another Needless Tragic Accident.
It begins Wednesday at midnight and runs through the 26th.
