NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — New Haven police have arrested a driver they say lead them on a high speed chase through the city Thursday night.

The chase began just before 10:00 p.m. when State police identified a stolen car along Interstate 95. When Troopers began to pursue the stolen vehicle, the driver took off at high speed, exited the highway, and fled into city neighborhoods while maintaining a dangerous speed.

State police requested assistance from New Haven police, who joined in on the chase. New Haven officers were able to close in on the driver at the corner of Carlisle Street and Liberty Street. The driver was immediately taken into custody.

A police cruiser was struck during the chase, however no injuries were reported. The driver’s identity and the charges he or she is facing have not yet been released.
