SOUTHINGTON, Conn. (WTNH)– Southington police have made an arrest in a case that involved the burning of an American flag.

The incident happened on Sunnyridge Drive earlier this week. Authorities say the man responsible for that burning flag is 20-year-old Klye LeBlanc of Southington. They say he lit a small American flag on fire. That flag was attached to a resident’s mailbox.

People in Southington say they’re trying to come to terms with the situation.

“I think burning an American flag, yes it’s definitely offensive, but I think there are political situations where it could be conceivable,” said Southington resident Taylor Malone. “I don’t think going over someone’s house and burning their American flag could be.”

Police say they were able to track LeBlanc down thanks to the help of video surveillance.

LeBlanc is charged with criminal mischief, breach of peace, and mutilation of the flag. He was released on $1,000 bond.
