Teenagers fall through ice in New London

NEW LONDON, Conn. (WTNH)– Three teenagers fell through the ice Friday afternoon in New London, leading to a rescue.

Officials say the teens fell through the ice of a lake or pond and were just clinging onto a rock when someone heard their cries and called 911.

“They’re very lucky someone heard them and that we got there as quick as we did,” said a firefighter. “I’m very proud of the department.”

The New London Fire Department was all hands on deck. They used cold water rescue suits and an inflatable to get to the teens.

One of the teens is being treated for hypothermia, but it’s believed it will all okay.
