(WTNH)–Waterbury residents living at this apartment building on south main street say they’ve been living without heat for two weeks. Tracy Woods said, “I’m sleeping in hotels. I’ve got five space heaters upstairs and it’s still not working.”
Storm Team 8 meteorologists say get ready for even colder temperatures. In Waterbury it could get below zero this week. Tenants tell us the frigid temperatures outside are making apartment life miserable. “we cold. that’s how it’s effecting us. mentally and physically, ” said Woods. A tenant who did not want to be identified said, “we are sitting in the house with scarfs on and hats and two or three pairs of socks just trying to keep warm. If you know that the heat is out for a building that you own then do what ever you have to do to fix that problem.”
Tenants say while it is brutally cold outside, it’s just as cold inside their apartments. As the temperatures dip, residents are trying to keep warm but it’s been tough. We talked to the management company and they say they’re fixing the problem. The boiler broke and they ordered a new one.
NEWS8 called the Waterbury Health Department and there was a violation issued for no heat. The inspector responded to the complaint and while the management company gets things fixed they were ordered to supply tenants with space heaters. The Waterbury health department says the property management team is complying with their request.
