(WTNH)– Tennis star Serena Williams found herself in a state with which many morning newscasters are familiar – exhaustion. She did what many of us do in those circumstances: she ordered a double shot of espresso. The big difference was that she ordered hers in the middle of a tennis match!

The WTA No. 1 player was playing in the Hopman Cup in Australia on Monday when she felt tired. She was down 6-0 against Flavia Pennetta when she asked the chair umpire if she was allowed to order an espresso mid-match.

“I was just feeling it, so I just had to get some coffee into me,” said Williams. “I just asked them to get me a shot of espresso – I asked them if it was legal, because I’ve never done it before. I needed to wake up.”

Turns out it was legal. A cup of espresso was brought out to her court-side seat. After drinking what she jokingly called the “miracle coffee,” Williams went on to win the match.
