(WTNH)– With an arctic blast on the way, many communities across the state are opening warming centers. A list of some warming centers is below. To see all warming centers, click here.

  • Bloomfield (Warming Centers open January 5-9, 2015)

  • From mid-November through March 31, Saint Vincent de Paul Middletown and local churches operate a nightly Middletown Warming Center. The warming center is available for single adult men and women to be safe and out of the cold. The center does not accept children. The center will not provide beds or food but they will have hot beverages and sometimes snacks. Walk in between 9pm-7am.

  • Bridgeport

  • Canton
    • Canton Community Center at 40 Dyer Avenue is open Monday through Thursday 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
    • Canton Public Library at 40 Dyer Avenue is open:Monday through Thursday 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
    • Only service animals are allowed.
    • No overnight accommodations are available.
    • Handicapped accessible.
  • Thomaston
    • Thomaston will operate a warming/shelter on an as-needed basis.
    • Located at the fire station (245 South Main Street) for anyone needing help.
    • Handicapped accessible
    • No pets allowed at this time
    • Bring any necessary medications and personal items you feel you may need

  • New Fairfield

    • Guilford Senior Center, Maple Avenue, Open M-F: 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Hamden
    • The Miller Memorial Library and the Hamden Senior Center at 2901 Dixwell Avenue, the Whitneyville Branch Library at the corner of Carleton and Putnam avenues, the Brundage Community Branch Library at 91 Circular Avenue and the Hamden Government Center at 2750 will serve as warming centers during business hours.
    • After-hours warming centers are located at Hamden Police Headquarters at 2900 Dixwell Avenue, Fire Station 2 at 71 Circular Avenue, Fire Station 3 at 421 Hartford Turnpike, Fire Station 4 at 2372 Whitney Avenue, Fire Station 5 at 2993 Whitney Avenue and Fire Station 9 at 245 Johnson Road.
