Bristol man attempted to assault police

Bristol, Conn. (WTNH)– A Bristol man was arrested Tuesday for attempting to assault officers during a traffic stop.

According to police, officers pulled over 51 year old William Dodge for several motor vehicle violations shortly after 6 p.m.

Police say Dodge walked away from officers while they were trying to test his sobriety and ignored their orders to stop. Dodge allegedly resisted arrest as officers tried to stop him from entering his home, and attempted to assault the two officers in the process.

After a struggle, Dodge was arrested. He now faces several charges, including attempted assault of a police officer and interfering with a police officer, as well as several drug and vehicle charges.

Dodge was released after posting $15,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 20.
