New Haven police investigate Dixwell Avenue shooting

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)– New Haven police are investigating a Thursday night shooting on Dixwell Avenue.

Police say 20-year-old Darrell Bulls was shot near the Dixwell Avenue Mini-Mart around 9 p.m. The shooting may have stemmed from an argument inside the store, police say. They say Bulls was shot in the hand, and taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening.

According to police, Bulls has been uncooperative in their investigation. However, witnesses say the the shooter was a thin black man with dreadlocks wearing blue jeans and a black cap. Police say they searched the area and detained a man fitting that description, but he was released because Bulls couldn’t identify him.

A weapon was not recovered, according to police.

Anyone with information that may be useful to the investigation is asked to call New Haven detectives at (203) 946-6304.
