WESTPORT, Conn. (WTNH)– Emergency crews had to help a deer stuck in a fence in Westport Friday morning.

The Westport Fire Department had to use the jaws of life to free the animal from the fence on Beachside Avenue. Fire officials say they were able to free the deer without causing it any more harm.

Westport police closed Beachside Avenue for a short time because animal control thought the deer would run across the road once freed, which they say it did.

Officials advise to never attempt to rescue a trapped animal; you should contact animal control instead. They say animals feel threatened when trapped, becoming dangerous.
