Armory open for indoor exercise in Ansonia

ANSONIA, Conn. (WTNH)– It’s too cold and messy outside to fit in an outdoor workout. But in Ansonia there’s a new place you can go to make sure you stay on top of your fitness plan.

It’s actually an old building being put to new use. The Ansonia Armory is 95 years old. For decades it was used by the National Guard. Today it can be used by you.

For the second year in a row, the City of Ansonia is opening up the Armory for indoor exercising in winter cold. The National Guard stopped using the armory years ago. The city took it over in 2003, and then fixed it up and brought it up to code starting in 2011.

They put in sprinklers and a gymnasium floor, and last winter opened it up in the morning so folks could stretch their legs, walk some laps and maybe follow through with their new year’s resolutions to get more exercise, despite the cold and whatever may be falling from the sky.

Starting Monday, the armory will be open for two hours each morning, from 7 to 9 AM. That will continue through March 27th, by which time hopefully it will feel more like spring.
