Torrington winter mix closes schools

TORRINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) — Icy road conditions are keeping Torrington kids home for yet another snow day. Dennis Fecto said, “I’ve got grandchildren that go to school and if it’s icy they made the right call. I wouldn’t want to see any kids get hurt.”

The icy winter weather caused messy road conditions. Classes were empty and school was canceled again courtesy of the white stuff. Henry Harrison said, “I don’t think they had to but it’s safe for the kids, just to be safe.”

The snow plow drivers got off to an early start Monday morning clearing the roads for drivers. Some people woke up to snow and started the day off digging out. The rain, snow and slush made it a tough commute for drivers.

Brenda Summers said, “when I was driving over here I was sliding around a little bit so Torrington being so hilly it’s kind of tough for some people.”

Greg Summers added, “I didn’t even put it in four wheel drive and I did fine. everyone is out doing their own business. It is not a big deal to us. I’m glad it’s just not buffalo.” Those who are used to driving in this kind of weather say make sure you, “slow down, take it easy that’s all you can do,” said Dennis Fecto.
