TRUMBULL, Conn. (WTNH)– On Tuesday, Trumbull police officer William Ruscoe began his 30-month prison term for being accused of sexually abusing a teenage girl.
45-year-old Ruscoe was arrested last February and resigned from the police department due to the charges against him. He was sentenced to only 30 months because of his “years of good service with the police department,” according to the CT Post.
The girl was in the department’s explorer program.
“I hope you can forgive me for bringing disgrace to a wonderful program,” said a tearful Ruscoe.
The alleged victim reported to state police that Ruscoe locked her in handcuffs and sexually assaulted her in his home in Trumbull. He blamed his actions on financial issues in his family and insufficiency of support in the state’s criminal justice system, says the Connecticut Post.
After serving his prison term at the Bridgeport Community Correctional Center, he will be placed on 10 years’ probation and must register as a sex offender.
