(WTNH)– The delicious combination of ice cream and cookies is nothing new. “Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough” and “Cookies & Cream” have been popular flavors for years. But Ben and Jerry’s is offering up a new twist on that combination and it’s coming out just in time to mess up our New Year’s resolutions to eat healthy.
There are three new “Cookie Cores” flavors — each featuring a “core” which, according to Ben and Jerry’s senior brand manager has the texture of a crunchy cookie dough. “Boom Chocolatta” is mocha and caramel flavored ice cream with chocolate cookies, fudge flakes and a chocolate cookie core. “Peanut Buttah” is, as you’d expect, peanut butter ice cream with peanut butter cookie pieces, crunchy peanut butter sugar bits and — what else — a peanut butter cookie core. “Spectacular Speculoos” features dark caramel and vanilla ice creams with cinnamon spiced speculoos cookies & a speculoos cookie butter core.
But what about the timing? Why does Ben and Jerry’s release new flavors in the heart of winter and at the peak of resolution season?
According to Bloomberg Businessweek, there are two primary reasons. First, ice cream makers want to push sales at a time when you’re probably not thinking about frozen treats. And second, they want to make sure store freezers are stocked and you’re familiar with the new flavors by the time ice cream season arrives.
