New Haven Palace Theater to rebrand, reopen after renovations

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)– It may not look like much when you walk by now, but there’s frantic activity inside the old Palace Theater in New Haven. That activity is sure to bring more vitality to downtown streets.

After sitting vacant for over a decade, the Palace Theater is being renovated and will soon reopen with a new name, the College Street Music Hall. Those in charge want to bring a progressive attitude with the new venue.

“History was in the past,” said Keith Mahler, president of Premier Concerts, the promotions company in charge of bringing in musical acts. “We’re bringing the future to New Haven, plain and simple.”

The new venue will fit 2,000 music fans, with seating in the balcony and standing capacity on the floor. The New Haven Center for Performing Arts owns the building and received the permit to begin renovations from the city earlier this month.

“A city’s arts and cultural offering express the heart and soul of that community,” said New Haven Mayor Toni Harp.

The new College Street Music Hall is set to open in spring.
